Sleeping in a Cybertruck: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to sleep in a Tesla Cybertruck, the electric vehicle that has been making waves since its launch in 2023?

I did, and that’s why I rented one for a night and drove it to a secluded spot in the countryside.

The Cybertruck is not your average truck. It has a sleek and angular design that resembles a stealth fighter jet, a bulletproof and hail-resistant stainless steel body, and a glass roof that offers stunning views of the sky.

It also boasts a tri-motor system that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, a spacious cabin that can fit five adults, and a 6.5-foot-long bed that can haul up to 2,500 pounds of cargo.

But the Cybertruck is more than just a vehicle. It is also a smart device that can do almost anything you want it to do.

It has an 18.5-inch infinity touchscreen that controls everything from the navigation to the entertainment to the settings, a rear steering feature that improves the handling and maneuverability, and a 120V and 240V outlet that can power your tools or charge your devices.

You can even use the Cybertruck as a backup generator for your home, as it can provide up to 11.5 kW of power.

One of the coolest features of the Cybertruck is the basecamp, an inflatable tent that attaches to the bed and can fit two adults. It inflates in minutes, and it has a skylight, a fan, and a heater. It was perfect for camping in the wilderness, and it made me feel like I was sleeping in a spaceship.

However, sleeping in the Cybertruck was not as easy or comfortable as I expected. Here are some of the challenges and factors that affected my experience:

Setting up the Cybertruck for sleeping was a hassle. I had to fold down the rear seat bench, which was not very intuitive or user-friendly. I also had to remove the headrests, which were bulky and heavy.

Then I had to install a custom mattress, which was not included in the rental. I had to buy one online, and it cost me $200. It was also not very comfortable, as it was too thin and firm for my liking.

Sleeping in the Cybertruck was not very spacious. I am tall, and I barely fit in the bed. My feet were touching the tailgate, and my head was touching the tent. I had no room to stretch or turn.

I felt claustrophobic and cramped. The Cybertruck may be huge on the outside, but it is not very generous on the inside.

Sleeping in the Cybertruck was not very quiet. The Cybertruck has a climate control system that keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature, but it also makes a lot of noise.

It sounds like a jet engine, and it is very loud. I had to turn on the stereo and play some white noise to drown out the sound, but it was still annoying. The Cybertruck may be quiet on the road, but it is not very silent at night.

Sleeping in the Cybertruck was not very private. The Cybertruck has a glass roof that offers stunning views of the sky, but it also exposes you to the outside world. Anyone can see you through the glass, and you can see them.

I had to use some curtains to cover the windows, but they were not very effective. I felt exposed and vulnerable. The Cybertruck may be secure on the road, but it is not very discreet at night.

The Cybertruck is a vehicle that defies conventions and expectations. It is a truck that can outperform a sports car, a camper that can power a house, and a spaceship that can explore the Earth.

It is a vehicle that challenges the status quo and pushes the boundaries of innovation. It is a vehicle that makes you feel like you’re living in the future, but it is also a vehicle that may not suit everyone’s needs or preferences.

It is a vehicle that I will never forget, but it is also a vehicle that I may not want to sleep in again.
