How To Fix Tesla Power Wall Not Connecting To Wifi Issue?
#1. Check Your Wi-Fi Network and Router
One of the possible reasons why your Powerwall is not connecting to Wi-Fi is that your Wi-Fi network or router is not compatible or has some issues. Here are some things to check:
1. Make sure your Wi-Fi network is a 2.4 GHz network. Powerwall does not support 5 GHz networks or devices that run both 5 and 2.4 GHz bandwidths.
2. Make sure your Wi-Fi network has WEP/WPA1/WPA2 personal security or a hidden SSID.
3. Make sure your router is working properly and has a stable internet connection. You can try rebooting your router or contacting your internet provider if you have any doubts.
4. Make sure your Powerwall is within the range of your Wi-Fi signal. You can test the signal strength using your phone or another device near your Powerwall and Gateway.
#2. Configure Wi-Fi Settings Using the Tesla App
If your Wi-Fi network and router are fine, you may need to configure or update your Wi-Fi settings using the Tesla app.
There are two methods for doing this, depending on whether your Powerwall is disconnected from the internet or connected via cellular or wired ethernet.
#3. If Powerwall is Disconnected from the Internet
If your Powerwall is completely offline, you will see a ‘Device Offline’ banner on the home screen of the Tesla app, and you will not be able to see the recent power flow or energy data.
To configure Wi-Fi, go near your Powerwall and Gateway, and follow these steps:
1. In the Tesla app, locate your home energy site.
2. Select ‘Settings.’
3. Select ‘Configure Wi-Fi’ at the bottom of the screen.
4. Complete the following in-app steps based on your product configuration. For Gateway 1, click ‘Manually Enter Details’ and use the serial number from your Tesla app as the password (ex. STG1…<serial>).
For Gateway 2, scan the QR code located behind the glass door. For Powerwall+, scan the QR code located at the top of the enclosure.
5. If the connection fails, reset your Gateway or Powerwall+, wait five minutes and try again. You must stand next to your system during the entire setup.
To reset Gateway 1, press the reset button behind the metal door for approximately one second. To reset Gateway 2, press the reset button behind the glass door for approximately one second. Refer to your Owner’s Manual for instructions on how to reset Powerwall+.
Accept the request to join your Powerwall’s local ‘TEG-xxx’ Wi-Fi network, where ‘xxx’ are the last three alphanumeric characters of your Powerwall serial number. Wait a few minutes for your phone to connect to Wi-Fi.
Select your home Wi-Fi network, and then enter your network password.
Tap ‘Connect’ to connect your Powerwall to Wi-Fi. The connection may take up to five minutes to complete.
If Powerwall is Connected to the Internet via Cellular or Wired Ethernet
If your Powerwall is online, but you want to change or update your Wi-Fi settings, you can use the following method1:
If the connection to TEG fails, reset your Gateway or Powerwall+, wait five minutes, and try again. A Wi-Fi signal strength between two or three bars is required for successful connection to your home network.
If a signal strength of two or three bars is not achieved, relocate your access point or consider alternative connectivity options.
5. Select your home Wi-Fi network, and then enter your network password.
. Tap ‘Connect’ to connect your Powerwall to Wi-Fi. The connection may take up to five minutes to complete.
