Some tips to increase the battery performance and range of your electric scooter…

1. Store your Electric Scooter in a cool, dry place at 40% charge when storing it for long periods of time

a) Fully depleted Lithium Ion batteries have a short life and are the root cause of good battery failure.

b) For long-term storage store at 40% charge. To keep the battery at this level, you will need to check it every 4 to 8 weeks due to self-discharge and maintain the level.

c) Store your scooter in a cool, dry place. Exposing fully charged batteries to high temperatures is especially harmful.

2. Operate your Electric Scooter within 30% to 80% of its battery capacity

a) You can extend the life of a battery by using it at 30 to 80 percent of its maximum capacity. This is known as the “sweet zone”, and it can extend battery life by up to 4 times.

b) The ideal voltage range for individual cells is between 3.36 V (30% efficiency) to 3.96 V per cell (80% efficiency).

3. Charge the battery when it is between 32 and 113 degrees Fahrenheit (0 C to 45 C)

a) Do not charge your scooter if the battery temperature is below freezing point. For example, if you are storing your scooter in a garage or outside when the temperature is below freezing.

b) To charge the battery, wait until it is warm above freezing.

c) Charging at higher temperatures (113 F/45 C) is likely to reduce battery life, but is not as harmful to the battery.

4. Do not leave your charger plugged in after charging

a) After fully charged, the charger of your scooter should be disconnected.

b) If you leave it plugged in after charging, the cathode will corrode and the capacity will drop.

5. Do not fully discharge your Electric Scooter in less than an hour

a) If you have a fast scooter and want to go fast, you need to discharge the battery fast.

b) If you’re really concerned, though, you shouldn’t discharge the battery at a rate that will completely drain it in less than an hour (this is known as a C-rate of 1.0).

c) You can exceed this ideal discharge rate (if only for a short time) when running at high speed for a long time or under a strong torque load, such as when accelerating down a steep slope.

6. Do not fully charge your Electric Scooter in less than an hour

a) If you charge Lithium Ion batteries slowly, they will last longer (known in technical battery terms as the C-rate).

b) It is advised not to fully charge the battery in less than 1 hour for maximum battery longevity.

c) Even with multiple quick chargers, you will not be able to exceed the charging rate for most scooters and charger setups.
